Over 60 local and regional professional artists will display and sell their art in an array of mediums to satisfy every taste and budget at the 59th Annual Chadds Ford Art Sale & Show on Friday, March 28th from 7pm - 10pm and Saturday, March 29th from 10am - 4pm. As in previous years, patrons can meet the artists on Friday evening while enjoying live music and complimentary hors d’oeuvres from prominent local restaurants. This year’s chairpersons, Joanne Bates and Luci McClure, hope you can stop in to enjoy the show!
This year’s Featured Artist is Helena van Emmerik-Finn whose new pastel, “Spring Blooms”, was painted just for the show. The spring theme is perfect for the anticipation of the end of winter! The original and prints of “Spring Blooms”, along with many other offerings from Helena, will be available for sale at the show. Our Donating Artist, Judith McCabe-Jarvis, has created an original oil painting called “Sunday Frolic”. This will be featured in the raffle. Ms. Jarvis also happens to be a parent of current and former Chadds Ford students. Since moving to our district a few years ago, she has become a welcome addition to our roster of artists and has donated paintings for our raffle on several occasions. This year’s raffle items will be posted on our web site listed below.
For the second year in a row, the Chadds Ford Art Show is proud to present a special guest artist. This year our honored student alumni artist is Alex Cutrona. Alex attended Chadds Ford Elementary and is now a senior at Unionville High School. He has only been involved with the art program for 3 years, but he has shown amazing talent and was the featured student artist at the recent Unionville Art Gala. He has taken classes at Delaware College of Art and Design, as well as spending a semester at Pratt Institute of Art in New York City. His work is primarily figure painting and drawing with the use of many mediums. His main focus is the use of color to represent his chosen subject matter. Alex looks forward to pursuing a career in the arts. He will be attending the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in the fall as a freshman working to gain his Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts. The Art Show plans to donate one of Alex’s paintings to a local senior center. On Saturday, we have a special treat for Alex. George A. (Frolic) Weymouth, founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Brandywine Conservancy, will be present to give Alex a special recognition as our Alumni student artist. Mr. Weymouth has long been associated with efforts to preserve our Brandywine Valley’s natural and cultural heritage. He has also been a long-time supporter of artists in our region and is a well-known artist in his own right.
Our violin duo on Friday night will be courtesy of Maria & Clare Semes. The 18 and 16 year old sisters have had extensive training with some of the best violin teachers and have won numerous competitions over the years. They are both members of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra and the Youth Chamber Orchestra at Temple Music Prep. The sisters have performed all over the world and have been featured on public radio music programs.
On Saturday our live music will be provided by some of our Unionville High School students. Senior Natasha Carlin and her string quartet will perform for our patrons. Natasha recently performed at Unionville’s Art Gala. We are also delighted to have the 9th grade siblings from Unionville, Andrew, Christopher, and Amanda Chou, as they too will entertain us with their violin music. These 3 siblings have tremendous talent, and each plays 2 instruments. They have been playing in the Unionville-Chadds Ford Orchestra since 4th grade.
Admission is free and 30% of all purchases are tax deductible. Proceeds benefit educational enrichment programs in foreign language, science and the arts. Please refer to http://cfes.ucfsd.org/artshow/index.html for further details about the show.
